The Executive Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has officially appointed Augustine Eguavoen as the head coach of the Super Eagles.

The decision, announced on Thursday via a communique, follows a recommendation from the NFF's Technical and Development Sub-Committee.

Eguavoen, 58, who had been serving as the NFF's Technical Director, will now lead the national team in their upcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Libya, scheduled for next month.

This appointment solidifies his position after a successful stint as interim coach.

Augustine Eguavoen passed his Super Eagles interim test without calling Akpom.

The veteran coach's recent performance at the helm of the Super Eagles played a crucial role in this decision.

Under Eguavoen's guidance, Nigeria secured a convincing 3-0 victory against Benin Republic and held Rwanda to a goalless draw in the opening matches of their qualifying campaign earlier this month.

The NFF's confidence in Eguavoen extends beyond the main national team, the Super Eagles.

He and his technical crew, which includes Fidelis Ilechukwu, Daniel Ogunmodede, Olatunji Baruwa, and Tomaz Zorec, will also oversee the Super Eagles B team.

This squad will compete in the qualifying rounds for next year's African Nations Championship (CHAN), a tournament featuring players from domestic leagues across Africa.

This appointment marks Eguavoen's fourth time leading the Super Eagles, highlighting his extensive experience with the national team setup.

His previous stints and current role as Technical Director have given him deep insights into Nigerian football, which the NFF hopes will translate into success on the international stage.

Eguavoen and his team will look to build on their recent performances and secure Nigeria's place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
