Chelsea continue to be active in the summer transfer window as they complete the transfer of Marc Guiu from Barca Athletic.

Chelsea have completed the signing of 18-year-old striker Marc Guiu from Barcelona, underscoring BlueCo’s youth-focused transfer policy since acquiring the West London-based club.

Chelsea triggered the €6 million release clause in his Barcelona contract and have given him a five-plus-one-year contract. Also, according to Fabrizio Romano, he will not be initially loaned out to Sevilla, as some reports claimed.

Chelsea's statement

The Blues put out an official statement on their website, announcing that they have signed the Spaniard on a five-year deal with an option to extend for an additional year.

Speaking at his unveiling, Guiu said, “It's an immense joy to sign for Chelsea and I struggled to sleep ahead of the journey here because I was so excited.”

“Ever since I was small, it was my dream to play in the Premier League. Now I have the opportunity to come here to Chelsea and I will work my hardest to be successful for the club.”

Who is Marc Guiu?

Guiu is a Barcelona academy graduate, and he made his debut for the Blaugrana first team last season. However, it was the Catalan club's B team he was mostly involved with, and he was integral in a promotion push that left his side one playoff final win away from advancing into the Segunda division.

Guiu was a highly-rated youngster at Barcelona. He scored in his debut for the senior team in a 1-0 victory against Athletic Club. He also scored in the Champions League victory against Royal Antwerp.

However, the status of Robert Lewandowski and the signing of Vitor Roque meant his opportunities with the first team were limited. This is said to have contributed to his desire to leave the club, as he believes himself ready for more regular first-team football.

Guiu joins Chelsea's ranks as a striker, and with Jackson already on board and Nkunku expected to be fit next season, that could effectively be the end of Chelsea's pursuit of Victor Osimhen.
