Saka’s reverence of Ronaldo
The 24-year-old has arguably been the best player in the Premier League this season and, in the past two seasons, has led Arsenal to two second-placed finishes in the English top division.
Saka, unlike many top wingers, does not have a flashy or elaborate playing style. Instead, his strengths are in his nail-hard mentality and efficiency.
Hence, it came as not surprise that when asked to pick a side in the GOAT debate, despite being left-footed like Messi, the England international opted for Ronaldo.
"I used to love Cristiano Ronaldo. A lot of other kids my age used to love watching him as well,” Saka said in an interview with Arsenal’s website.
“The different things he could do on the pitch, his skills. The way he took free kicks, too, I think a lot of us used to try to emulate that."
What Arteta said
Arteta, La Masia-raised, has always been a Messi guy, believing the Inter Miami guy to be the greatest to have played the game.
However, he is happy Saka emulates Ronaldo, as he regards the Portuguese as a worthy Role Model.
“To look is always good! And probably, the way Cristiano started his career and when he joined United, nobody probably expected in the first few seasons he’d be able to do that,” he said, per Fabrizio Romano.
“But again, it was about his mentality, his work ethic, how he developed his skill, his chemistry with his team and to play in a team that has the capacity as well to be dominant.”
