An erstwhile Arsenal midfielder is disappointed that history has repeated itself for Mikel Arteta’s side in the Premier League title race.
Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit is not happy about the Gunners' late-season collapse to all but hand Liverpool the Premier League title.
The Gunners went into February 22's league fixture with West Ham United with the possibility of cutting Liverpool's lead to five points before Arne Slot's men faced Manchester City the following day.
However, Mikel Arteta's side suffered a shock 1-0 home defeat at the hands of Graham Potter's men and followed that up with a goalless encounter midweek at Nottingham Forest.

With Liverpool notching a pair of 2-0 wins over Man City and Newcastle United, Arsenal now trail the league-leading outfit by 13 points, albeit having played a fewer game than the side atop the Premier League.

What Petit said about Arsenal’s ill-timed dip
Despite a surfeit of injuries limiting Arteta in forward areas — Gabriel Jesus, Kai Havertz, Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli are all ruled out for the Gunners — Petit believes the Gunners have no excuses for this year's title failure.

“History repeats itself with Arsenal & I refuse to blame their injuries,” said the former Arsenal midfielder via afcstuff on X. “Look at the performance against West Ham, injuries don’t mean you play with that level of intensity when you have a chance to put pressure on Liverpool.
“Arsenal players have to blame themselves, they had a chance to close the gap & they lost at home to a team who were 16th in the table. There are no excuses.”
What next for Arsenal?
Arteta’s men face PSV in the first leg of their last-16 Champions League tie on March 4 before travelling to Manchester United on March 9.
