The star of the show was Kano Pillars' 43-year-old midfield maestro, Rabiu Ali, who netted a brace in the second half.
Ali's goals came in quick succession, finding the net in the 69th and 79th minutes, with one coming from a well-executed free kick.
Mustapha Umar had earlier opened the scoring for Pillars in the 62nd minute, breaking the deadlock after a goalless first half.
Following the heavy defeat, social media erupted with reactions from NPFL fans, many of whom were quick to mock Ikorodu City's performance.
Some supporters suggested the club should consider selling their NPFL slot, while others drew unfavourable comparisons to demoted side Sporting Lagos.
One fan commented, "The only mistake that you made is to play against Kano Pillars, and it's not too late for you to sell your slot," highlighting the challenging nature of the league for newly promoted teams.
Another supporter pessimistically predicted, "I doubt maybe Ikorodu City fit win 7 matches the whole season, sure odd Ikorodu City to relegate, put like 100k go sleep," suggesting a difficult season ahead for the Oga Boys.
However, not all reactions were negative. Some fans offered words of encouragement to the debutants.
One supportive comment read, "Don't be discouraged with this, this is just the beginning," while another advised, "You played a good game, but your attacking tactics are very poor," offering constructive criticism.
An optimistic City fan remained hopeful, stating, "Next 7 matches are our 21 points, In Shaa Allah," showing faith in the team's ability to bounce back.
This defeat serves as a harsh introduction to the NPFL for Ikorodu City, highlighting the significant step up in quality from lower league football.
The Oga Boys will need to quickly adapt, as the season progresses, to the demands of top-flight football if they hope to avoid an immediate return to the lower divisions.
