Manchester United will be out to build onto their Boxing Day victory against Nottingham Forest as Erik ten Hag hopes to keep easing the pressure following recent poor run
Manchester United enjoyed a remarkable day on Boxing Day.
The Red Devils began the Sir Jim Ratcliffe era in dramatic fashion, coming from two goals down to beat Aston Villa 3-2 at Old Trafford.
Such was the drama of the game, however, it remains difficult to judge this United team ahead of Saturday’s trip to Nottingham Forest.
While they have just about staved off a complete crisis, it would hardly be a surprise to see them lose at the City Ground.
Forest got their first win under Nuno Espirito Santo by coming from behind to beat Newcastle.
Here’s everything you need to know about the game.
Team news
Manchester United are sweating over the fitness of Luke Shaw ahead of their trip to face Nottingham Forest.
The left-back missed the dramatic win over Aston Villa with a muscle injury but Erik ten Hag did not provide a further update on Shaw at his pre-match press conference on Friday beyond adding: "It will be a similar squad as we had against [Aston] Villa."
If Shaw is again out, Diogo Dalot could continue at left-back but has struggled when deputising. Sergio Reguilon is another option though the future of his loan spell is unclear.
Sofyan Amrabat is also a doubt with a muscle injury, while Anthony Martial has been sidelined with illness.
Two-goal hero Alejandro Garnacho will keep his place on the right wing, and Marcus Rashford produced a much-improved display on the opposite flank last time out. Rasmus Hojlund has finally ended his goal drought and will hope to build momentum.
