2024 Federation Cup finalist have celebrated their former striker

Former Abia Warriors striker Samson Obi has received a special award for his 21-goal contribution to the team in the 2023/2024 NPFL season.

Obi, who now plays for Rivers United, was recognised for his impressive performance during the last campaign with the Abia based club.

Obi's 21 goals helped Abia Warriors finish 12th in the league with 52 points. The club also reached the final of the 2024 President Federation Cup, where they lost 4-0 to El-Kanemi Warriors.

Reacting after the award, Obi appreciated Abia Warriors management and players for celebrating him.

"I'm happy that my former club still recognised my contributions last season," Obi said.

He continued, "I'm overwhelmed with this award. I'm humbled. I thank the management, the coaches, players, and supporters who made it possible."

In other news, Abia Warriors striker Emmanuel Ogbuagu was named Man of the Match in their 2-0 victory over Rivers United. Ogbuagu scored the opening goal with a stunning free-kick from 30 yards out. Anthony Ijoma, another Abia Warriors player, received the League Bloggers Award for February 2025.
