Several players and officials of NPFL club Heartland FC sustained injuries during the accident.
Heartland Football Club of Owerri was involved in a ghastly accident on their way to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-Season Tournament.
According to a statement from the team, the accident occurred near Okigwe, Imo State with no fatalities reported. However, several players and officials sustained injuries and they have been moved to the hospital for medical attention.
The club statement reads: "The accident happened at Umunna close to Okigwe still within Imo State.
"The vehicle in its attempt to dodge an uncoming vehicle collided with another carelessly parked vehicle from another accident.
"Though no death was recorded some players and officials sustained injuries and have been taken to the hospital," the statement from the club read.
Heartland relegated to NNL
Meanwhile, former Nigerian champion Heartland FC were relegated to the Nigeria National League for the third time in their history.
According to several unconfirmed reports, the club is targeting to buy a slot from NNL champions, Beyond Limits to play in the NPFL this season.

Pulse Sports also reported that Heartland has appointed former Super Eagles star and FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning coach, Emmanuel Amuneke, as the new head coach.
Amuneke’s appointment comes after a stint as a consultant for the club and overseeing their recent open player trials. He was also previously linked with the Super Eagles job, which ultimately went to Finidi George.
