The unfortunate incident claimed the life of Heartland FC coach Christian Obi, who was the head last season.

Former Heartland coach Christian Obi passed away yesterday evening, August 23rd after the team bus the club was travelling was involved in an accident.

57-year-old Obi once represented Nigeria at international level. He played as a goalkeeper and was a member of Team Nigeria's contingent at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul.

Recall that Pulse Sports earlier reported that the Owerri-based side was involved in a ghastly accident on their way to Abakaliki for the Ifeanyi Ekwueme TICO/SELECT Pre-Season Tournament.

According to a statement from the team, the accident occurred near Okigwe, Imo State, with no fatalities reported, and several players and officials sustained injuries and they have been moved to the hospital for medical attention.

The club statement read, "The accident happened at Umunna close to Okigwe, still within Imo State. The vehicle, in its attempt to dodge an oncoming vehicle, collided with another carelessly parked vehicle from another accident."

However, it has now been confirmed that Christain Obi did not survive the unfortunate road accident.
