NSC confirms Super Eagles to play 3 friendlies in June 2025, aiming to refine team for World Cup qualifiers and new bonus structure agreed, boosting focus and stability.

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced that the Super Eagles will participate in a training camp and three friendly matches during the June 2025 international window.

NSC Chairman Shehu Dikko stated that this opportunity will allow the technical crew to "reset, mould, and perfect" the team ahead of the FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers resuming in September 2025.

Dikko emphasised that Nigeria remains firmly in contention for qualification despite the setback against Zimbabwe.

"By the competition rules, technical situation, remaining fixture schedule, and points garnered, Nigeria is still in play, just like most teams in the group," he said on X.

“Winning the next four games could secure qualification, based on permutations and FIFA regulations. "Everything is still in play, and the team will stay focused until the very end," he added.

To support this mission, the NSC, in collaboration with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), negotiated a revised remuneration and bonus structure with the team for the remaining six qualifiers.

Funds were promptly disbursed, with payments for the recent Rwanda match settled as agreed and the Zimbabwe match bonuses paid a day before the game.

"This demonstrates the NSC’s commitment to motivate the team," Dikko noted, thanking the players for agreeing to the new structure, which has eliminated distractions and fostered stability.

Osimhen scored all the goals against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.

"The determined and solid performances during this window show the team’s commitment was never in doubt," Dikko said.

The friendly matches in June are seen as a critical step to refine strategies and maintain momentum for the qualifiers, with the Super Eagles keeping their "eyes firmly on the ball" as they chase a spot at the 2026 World Cup.
