The historic win qualifies Edo Queens for the 2024 WAFU-B Women's Champions League Qualifiers.

Edo Queens have emerged as the champions of the NWFL Premiership, claiming their first-ever title in a nail-biting final day.

The Benin City-based club is home to Peace Abbey, who is widely regarded as the most beautiful female footballer in the NWFL.

Coach Moses Aduku needed a win to guarantee the championship. However, their fate became intertwined with the outcome of the clash between seven-time champions Rivers Angels and Super Six debutants Heartland Queens.

Bayelsa Queens nearly grabbed the lead early on, but it was Edo Queens who drew first blood. Emem Essien scored a spectacular acrobatic goal from a corner in the 29th minute to put Edo Queens in front.

The second half saw Bayelsa Queens fight back, equalizing through a Zainab Olopade free kick.

Meanwhile, in Nembe, Rivers Angels briefly held the lead, putting pressure back on Edo Queens.
