Only four points separate the Sugar Millers from leaders Tusker..

Nzoia Sugar managed a 2-0 Football Kenya Federation Premier League win over Kakamega Homeboyz on Sunday at Bukhungu Stadium.

Goals from James Kibande and Hassan Beja were enough for the Bungoma-based team to beat their opponents and take their tally to 60 points.

Gor Mahia, who were beaten by AFC Leopards, are just three points ahead with Tusker a further point in front.

Meanwhile, Randy Bakari breathed a sigh of relief in the seventh minute when his defensive blunder almost gave Homeboyz a chance to score the opener. However, the danger was quickly cleared, and Nzoia came out unscathed.

Nzoia could not take the lead in the 21st minute when Beja, after being spotted in a promising position by Kibande, lost the ball and a chance for a poor control.

Another chance came in the 25th minute, and this time around, it was Ambrose Sifuna who failed to find the back of the net.

Homeboyz’s Felicen Okanda was lucky not to receive a card after a dangerous ball on Ian Karani two minutes after the half hour mark.

After failing to get at least a goal in the first half despite numerous chances they had, it took the Sugar Millers eight minutes into the second half to break the deadlock.

Yassin Sije did well to spot Kibande in a promising position, and the latter did not err as he managed to find the back of the net and put the visitors in front.

Nzoia extended their lead in the 61st minute when Beja scored a rather easy goal. There was brilliant interplay between Sije and Alfred Tanui – which Homeboyz failed to counter - and the final ball fell on Sije, who struck against a stunned home side.

Homeboyz, after going down, made two changes, with Okanda and Enock Agwanda going out while Chris Masinza and Vincent Ogolla came on.

A third goal was almost registered, but Sije, after he was set up by Tanui, was stopped from scoring by a raised offside flag in the 66th minute.

The victory is a morale boost for the Sugar Millers, who remain in contention for the Premier League title. Tusker lead the pack with 64 points.
