Nzoia Sugar FC dynamic winger Steve Otieno is determined to raise the bar and deliver his best performance yet in the upcoming 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

Having been a pivotal part of the  sugar millers that secured an impressive fourth-place finish in the previous season, Otieno is determined to elevate his game even further and earn a coveted spot in the national team.

Reflecting on his journey so far, Otieno expressed his ambition to follow in the footsteps of his past success with the Under-20 team and break into the senior national side.

"In the past, I made it to the Under-20 national team. I'd love to make it to the main team, and that's my ambition now," Otieno affirmed.

The 2022/23 season proved to be a memorable one for Otieno and his teammates, as they excelled and secured a place in the top five teams of the league.

One of the standout moments for the young winger was the thrilling match against Kakamega Homeboyz, where both teams played to a one-all stalemate, at Bukhungu Stadium.

Otieno contributed with a remarkable assist, highlighting his skills and potential against a formidable opponent.

Looking ahead to the upcoming season, Otieno acknowledged the challenges the team has faced due to several key squad members and their coach, Salim Babu, departing.

Despite the setbacks, the talented winger emphasised the profound impact Babu had on the team as a motivator and father figure to many players.

"Having the right people around you can help you when you are low. He (Babu) was really a father figure to many, and he will be missed," Otieno fondly reminisced about the departed coach.

With new beginnings on the horizon, Otieno is determined to make the most of the opportunities presented to him and his team.

"It's now time to do more and work for a better tomorrow. People come and go, but before you go, leave a legacy behind, that's my motive,” he concluded.
