Obafemi Martins backs Inter Milan to win Seria A ahead of Ademola Lookman's Atalanta

The former Inter Milan striker believes the Nerazzurris will win the league ahead of Ademola Lookman's Atlanta.

Former Inter Milan forward Obafemi Martins believes his old club still has a chance to defend their Serie A title, despite currently trailing behind their rivals.

Inter's recent form has been impressive, highlighted by a resounding 6-0 victory over Lazio on Sunday, extending their unbeaten league run to 10 matches.

This victory also saw Inter set a new Serie A record for away goals in a calendar year, having scored 47 times on the road in 2024.

However, despite these strong performances, they currently sit in third place, behind Atalanta and Napoli.

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins remains optimistic about Inter's title prospects.

Obafemi, however, during an exclusive with Flashscore acknowledged the difficulty of catching up in Serie A

"It depends on their determination. When you’re trailing a team by three or four points in Serie A, overtaking them becomes quite challenging.

The death of Mother of Super Eagles legend Obafemi Martins was brought up in criticism of Nigeria.

"No one expected them to clinch the title last season, yet they defied the odds to become league champions. This season, I hope they can replicate that success, but it won’t come easy with strong competitors like Atalanta and Napoli in the mix," he said.

"To achieve this, they must consistently win their games and hope rivals lose. They have a solid squad performing exceptionally well right now, and if they maintain this form, anything is possible," he explained.

Simone Inzaghi, who finished third in the 2023 Best FIFA Men’s Coach award, subsequently led Inter Milan to the 2023/24 Serie A title, securing the championship with a 2–1 win in the Milan derby.
