Their past campaign might have seen them fall short, but this season, Lugazi FC's ambitions are crystal clear. They're not just hoping for a promotion to the first division; they're methodically planning for it.

Lugazi FC, in its quest to solidify its defence, has reaffirmed its faith in two of its stalwarts.

Derrick Ochen and Louis Anguti have both committed their futures to the club by penning contract extensions that will keep them in Lugazi colors until 2026.

Ochen, who joined Lugazi FC from Blacks Power FC on a short term deal last season, has quickly established himself as a regular in the backline.

His meteoric rise in performance and ability has made him one of the standout defenders in the FUFA Big League.

“Last season I signed for this amazing club, and I am thrilled to extend my stay,” Ochen, elated at the contract extension, stated.

“I have improved immensely as a player since coming to Lugazi FC and I know what is needed to succeed at a club like this.”

“As we head into the coming season, there is a great opportunity to create something here and I am going to give everything to be part of that,” he added.

Coach William Kyeswa sung praises for Ochen, emphasizing his swift adaptation to the club's philosophy.

“Derrick Ochen has been at the club for a half season, we believe he understands the expectations, hard work, and commitment required to achieve our goal,” he affirmed.

On the other hand, Anguti, promoted from the Lugazi Soccer Academy, has been a revelation since his debut in 2021.

A player of many talents, Anguti can seamlessly fit into roles as a central defender, right full-back, and even as a defensive midfielder.

Fans of the club will fondly recall his pivotal goal against Kajjansi UTD in the FUFA Big League promotional playoffs - a historic moment that attests to his skill and prowess.

Adding to his laurels, Anguti's leadership at the KCCA FC junior team earned them the Cambiasso U-20 tournament trophy in 2022, held in Tanzania.

On renewing his ties with Lugazi FC, an ecstatic Anguti remarked, “I am honestly so happy to continue my career with the leaders.”

While the club is keen on retaining its key players, they've also been assertive in the transfer market. This season, they've added five promising talents to the ranks: Opio Abraham, Freedom Mungudit, Mubarak Mitala, Andrew Odong, and Samuel Nsubuga.

However, the transfer window hasn't been just about arrivals. Lugazi witnessed a significant exodus, with nine players departing.

Among them, the exits of last season’s top scorer, Gerald Ogweti, and the reliable goalkeeper, Anthony Emojong, have raised eyebrows.

Bob Charles Akena, Farook Banga, Godfrey Bubi, David Kizza, Tito Titus Lubega, Ben Ntege, and Florence Watmon also found new pastures.

This flurry of transfers comes on the back of Lugazi's debut season in the Big League. The team showed promise, finishing fifth on a 15-team table, just 13 points adrift from promotion, accumulating 44 points in 28 games.

Their past campaign might have seen them fall short, but this season, Lugazi FC's ambitions are crystal clear.
