The club chairman confirms that an amicable resolution has been reached with former coach Aussems.

Twelve-time storied Kenyan champions AFC Leopards have announced the lifting of their ban on player registrations.

The news comes after a resolution was reached between the club management and their former coach, Patrick Aussems, following a protracted contract dispute.

Club Chairman Dan Shikanda expressed his delight in a statement, confirming the long-awaited development.

"We are pleased to inform you that after a series of constructive discussions between club management and our former coach, Patrick Aussems, the parties have reached an amicable resolution to the contract dispute," read the statement.

"As a result, the player registration ban previously imposed on the club, by FIFA, has been lifted. The team now looks forward to the new season with renewed focus and determination."

The saga originated when Patrick Aussems, the Belgian tactician who had served as the team's head coach for two-and-a-half years, reported AFC Leopards to FIFA in March 2022 over unpaid dues amounting to Ksh21.5 million.

This sum was related to the period from July 31, 2021, when he signed a new two-year contract, to December 28, 2021.

However, the situation took a positive turn as both parties engaged in a series of discussions, leading to a mutually agreeable resolution.

As part of the settlement, AFC Leopards has initiated payments to Patrick Aussems. A payment of $55,000 (Ksh7.8 million) has already been wired, followed by an upcoming payment of $27,000 (Ksh3.8 million) scheduled for August 14.

Additional installments of $40,000 (Ksh5.7 million) and $30,000 (Ksh4.2 million) are slated for December 5, 2023, and March 5, 2023, respectively.

However, the agreement also stipulates a provision for penalties should the payments be delayed.

A $20,000 (Ksh2.8 million) fine will be imposed for each installment that the club fails to remit on the agreed-upon date.

This provision underscores the commitment of both parties to honoring the terms of the resolution and maintaining the positive momentum gained through their discussions.

As the new season approaches, Ingwe now stand on the precipice of a fresh start, unencumbered by the restrictions that had previously hindered their preparations.
