Spanish goalkeeper Robert Sanchez has been signed by Chelsea from Brighton & Hove Albion.

Chelsea, who sold their second goalkeeper Mendy this summer, needed a replacement and good competition for Kepa and identified Sanchez as a good fit for the club.

The Brighton goalkeeper was signed for a fee worth £25 million and agreed on a seven-year deal with the Blues.

Sanchez played 23 league games for Brighton last season but eventually lost his place to Jason Steele.

Sanchez is now a Blue

Chelsea's official Twitter account announced the signing of their new goalkeeper Robert Sanchez and welcomed him to the club.

Brighton manager Roberto de Zerbi has also wished him well on his new adventure with the Blues.

Brighton boss Roberto de Zerbi said, as reported by BBC, "Robert is a good guy and a really good player, but being a coach sometimes means making difficult and painful decisions for the team. I wish him good luck for the future."

Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, Chelsea's sporting directors, stated in a statement that "Robert has repeatedly proved himself in the Premier League and been capped by his country.

"We are excited to watch him work with Mauricio and his coaching team during the season ahead."

The Spanish international is Chelsea's sixth signing this summer as they get ready for Mauricio Pochettino's first season at the club.

Sanchez will challenge fellow Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea for the number one spot following Edouard Mendy's transfer to Saudi Pro League team Al-Ahli.
