Ogun FA Concludes Plan to Conduct Elections

The state FA election is slated for June 1st

The Ogun State Football Association has finalized plans for the election of a new board since the existing board's term is about to expire.

The FA concluded at its Annual General Assembly held in Abeokuta that the Congress agreed that elections for different positions on the board will come up on June 1st, 2023.

The Assembly inaugurated the Electoral Committee and the Electoral Appeal Committee to be saddled with the responsibility of conducting a free, fair, and credible poll.

Sales and returns of forms are scheduled to take place between May 15th to May 19th, 2023, with the screening of candidates scheduled for May 24th and May 25th, 2023.

The Chairman of the Ogun State Football Association, Alhaji Ganiyu Majekodunmi, disclosed that the decision is in line with the statutes and directives of the Nigeria Football Federation.

The Executive Board Member of the Nigeria Football Federation made assured that mechanisms will be in place to ensure a hitch-free process, as they have always been in the history of the Association.

Pulse Sports reports that the Ogun State Football Association (FA) revealed plans to fight hooligans at match venues during football matches in the state.

The Chairman of the State FA, Ganiu Majekodunmi, called for the deployment of more security personnel to stadiums during league games by security agencies to safeguard the safety of match officials and football fans.

Majekodunmi added that preparation is in top gear for its forthcoming election and vowed to conduct a free, fair, and credible election.

He said, “The disciplinary committee of the Ogun State Football Association is doing its best to make sure we eradicate referees’ attacks.

“The report I got two days ago was that some of the clubs that did that, have been expelled from the league, and they will be banned for five years and will not be able to appear in the league.

“The coach in question has been handed over to the police yesterday (Wednesday) by the Ijebu-Ode Football Council. He is going to write an undertaken that such a thing will not happen again.

The state-owned football club, Gateway United, bowed out of the Federation Cup on Thursday.
