Ogun State will host the National Sports Festival for the second time in the history of the state in 2024.

The Ogun State chapter of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN) has urged the state governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun to invest in the sports sector to drive the economy of the state.

SWAN in a congratulatory message jointly issued by the Chairman, Hakeem Akintunde and Secretary, Michael-Azeez Ogunsiji opined that the state's hosting of the 22nd National Sports Festival in 2024 would lead to a significant increase in sports infrastructure during the governor's second term.

The association also requested that the governor give Gateway United, the state football team, the necessary attention so that it can reclaim its former grandeur.

The sports writers argued that the governor's ISEYA campaign platform should call for a turnaround in the sports industry.

He said, “We felicitate our Grand Patron and Executive Governor of Ogun State, Prince Dapo Abiodun, MFR, on his second term swearing-in as the 7th Executive Governor of the Gateway State.

“Igbega Ipinle Ogun, we believe, should also include the sports sector.”
