The former Gor Mahia forward is now the top scorer in Qatar.
Harambee Stars skipper Michael Olunga extended his rich vein of form by bagging another goal in Al Duhail’s 3-1 thumping of Al Markhiya in the Qatar Stars League (QSL).
The strike enabled Olunga to pip Angolan forward Gelson Dala in the top scorer’s charts as became the first player in the league to hit double digits this season.
The 2021-2022 QSL Golden Boot winner now has 10 goals, one more than Dala as he hopes to bag the gong come the end of the season for the second successive campaign.
There was little goalmouth action in the first half with the major talking point happening in the 43rd minute when Al Duhail were forced into a substitution when Abdulrahman Moustafa went down with an injury and on came Khalid Mohammed.
Unimpressed by the slow first half, Al Markhiya made some changes at the start of the second half as they brought on Ali Said who took just nine minutes to break the deadlock.
Al Duhail however showed their mettle as they restored parity in the 73rd minute courtesy of a goal from Khalid Mohammed who bagged his third league goal of the season.
Olunga was on hand to complete the come back for Al Duhail three minutes later as he received a pass from Tae-Hee Nam just outside the box and fired the ball into the top corner.
The former Gor Mahia forward returned the favour two minutes later when he set up Tae-Hee Nam to score and put the game beyond AlMarkhiya.
The win extended Duhail’s nine game winning streak and opened up a seven point buffer at the summit of the log having only lost one game all season.
