FOOTBALL Omala spurns Kenya Police overtures

He is still contracted to Gor Mahia until 2024.

FKF Premier League leading scorer Benson Ochieng Oluoch popularly known as Omala has rejected the advances of big spending Police FC as suitors queue up for the Gor Mahia striker.

The talented marksman has scored seventeen goals in the opening half of the top-flight campaign and considers a move from K’Ogalo to Police FC as a huge career step-down.

Agents acting for clubs in Ethiopia, Tanzania and Zambia have made inquiries about Omala’s availability but the player favors a move to the European leagues.

Police approached the players father who works in the Kisumu County Government and is a former football player and Omala’s father is reportedly of the view that signing for the Police would give his son stability to focus on football excellence should Omala be drafted into the service.

It is not clear why Omala is hesitant about the move in spite of his father’s recommendation. “Police are hunting him. They have held extensive talks with the player and his father but no deal has been reached yet.

“Omala does not seem to like the idea of leaving Gor Mahia for a lower ranked team. He thinks his current club is a better launch pad for a more prosperous football career abroad. He has a big decision to make because Police offers are usually sweetened by the option of recruitment into the service thereby guaranteeing a player employment even beyond football playing years,” One agent working to secure a move for Omala disclosed to Pulse Sports Kenya.

Omala was loaned out to Swedish Division One outfit Linkoping FC in 2021 but the striker fell out with the club over several issues and returned home after just one month leaving the club feuding with Gor Mahia over breach of contract.

While the initial move to Europe was too soon for a teenager who had barely left his Kisumu hometown until then, Omala now feels ripe for another go at the big boys.

He is still contracted to Gor Mahia until 2024.
