The striker continued with his terrific form with two goals in the first half but K’Ogalo could not hold onto their advantage
Gor Mahia striker Benson Omalla is on the cusp of history after taking his tally to 24 goals as K’Ogalo threw away a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with Posta Rangers in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League match at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday.
Omalla, who had gone six games without a goal, ended his drought after just six minutes, slotting home following Gor’s early pressure on the Rangers goal.
The striker then sealed his brace 20 minutes later against the run play that was followed by a neat exchange of passes. The striker’s great positioning saw him poke home from close range to give his side a commanding lead.
Omalla is now just two goals shy of the league record of 26 set by Gor legend Maurice ‘Sonyi’ Ochieng in 1976.
Gor were not satisfied with the two goals and Peter Lwasa nearly made it 3-0 with a long-range shot that went just over the bar on the stroke of halftime as the visitors took a 2-0 lead to the break.
However, Gor slowed down the game in the second half, allowing Posta time and space of the ball and they were almost punished immediately after Dennis Njiru made a mess of a back pass.
There was no escaping shortly after as the mailmen launched a counter attack which Gor failed to deal with and it ended with Calvin Odongo hammering home past Gad Mathews. in K'Ogalo's goal.
Gor thought they done enough to seal the points but Rangers had other ideas, capitalising on a defensive lapse to slot in the equaliser, which was credited as a Mathews own goal, to break the Green Army’s hearts.
The draw sees Gor’s lead over second-placed Tusker FC reduce to two points as they now occupy top spot on 53 with Robert Matano’s men on 51 and with a game in hand.
