Omanyala finished his heat in a blazing 9.97 seconds, narrowly missing the top spot to American sprinter Noah Lyles, who clinched the heat with a time of 9.95 seconds.
The Kenyan sprinter’s remarkable start was evident from the get-go, with an evident improvement in his move off the blocks.
By the time he hit the 50m mark, he had already showcased his dominance over the race.
However, in a surprising moment, Omanyala took a brief glance over his shoulder to gauge Lyles' position.
Noticing he had a small lead, Omanyala opted to reduce his speed towards the finish, giving Lyles the opportunity to win the heat.
This win becomes even more significant considering Omanyala's journey.
He's no stranger to adversity, as seen during the Commonwealth Games, where he faced challenges arriving just three hours before his heat in Eugene last year.
Despite these challenges, he managed to make it to the semi-finals, finishing in third place.
The semi-finals are slated to take place on Sunday at 5:35 pm.
