Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson has been a key part of the club’s dominance in English football and earns £100,000 per week, but he believes his success is tied to a single pair of boxers he has worn for the past eight years.

After 18 major trophies, including six Premier League titles and the 2023 UEFA Champions League, the Brazilian is one of the most successful players in English football history.

However, the Brazilian believes his success may have been influenced by an unlikely lucky charm from his boxers.

Speaking on BBC Match of the Day, Ederson was asked whether he had any superstitions. His response left the interviewer stunned.

"I have only one superstition," he revealed. "I play every game in the same boxers. Eight years, the same boxers."

When the interviewer jokingly suggested that the underwear must be in bad shape by now, the City star simply laughed and responded, "No!"

Ederson is far from the only footballer with an unusual ritual. Former Arsenal goalkeeper Jens Lehmann famously refused to change his gloves for 48 consecutive games during the club’s legendary Invincibles season, only switching them after Arsenal’s unbeaten run was ended by Manchester United.

A difficult season for Ederson and City

Since Pep Guardiola’s arrival at Manchester City, the club has enjoyed an era of unprecedented success, with Ederson playing a crucial role as one of the world’s finest sweeper-keepers. His shot-stopping ability and exceptional footwork have made him indispensable for years.

However, this season has been one to forget for both the club and the player. City are struggling to secure a top-four finish in the Premier League, and Ederson has seemingly lost Guardiola’s trust.

The Brazilian has been sidelined for key matches, with Stefan Ortega stepping in for some of the most important games, suggesting that Pep may now see him as the more reliable option.
