Abia Warriors manager Erasmus Onuh has revealed the reason that his side were able to pull off a stunning 2-0 over Enugu Rangers in the Oriental Derby on Sunday.
The Umuahia-based club started their 2023 NPFL season with a bang on Sunday, as goals in either half from Bello Lukman and Monday Yakubu helped them to their first three points of the season.
The victory in Awka - one of the four away wins recorded on the first week of the new season - now see Abia Warriors sit at the top of Group B.
Onuh reveals his magic against Rangers
Speaking in the post-match conference, the Abia Warriors tactician stated that due to limitations his side were experiencing before their trip to Awka, he had to improvise in such a way his available players were all versatile.
"This is not the squad we were meant to use for this game, we experienced some hiccups in the player registrations," Onuh said after the win.
"We were only 16 today, we had to change our plans. One thing I did was to make every player get familiar with every position. Anywhere I played them, they had to give me the result."
Abia Warriors not in a hurry
Despite the win, Onuh stated that his team would not mind winning the league title, but added that they were not in a hurry to do so.
"I've been asked severally times what I am going to do in my first match, and I've been saying I will take it easy, and I am taking it easy. If the opportunity comes to win the league, I will be happy.
"Every match has its own preparation. I did not do anything different today than hard work. I have boys who are coordinated and are fantastic. We are a disciplined team."
"After today's win, we don't know what will happen next and that is why I said, we will take things as they come. Until the next one comes, there is nothing to say."
Abia Warriors go into their second game of the season, sitting at the top of Group B after securing all three points at Rangers without conceding a goal. They face Bayelsa United on Wednesday.
