Fenerbahce fans exhibited a show of support and appreciation for Nigerian defender Bright Osayi-Samuel as he returned to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium following an alarming incident of violence in a Turkish Super Lig game against Trabzonspor.
Osayi-Samuel receives warm welcome
Fenerbahce supporters warmly welcomed Bright Osayi-Samuel back to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium for the first time since the unfortunate altercation during the match against Trabzonspor. As players resumed action following the international break ahead of Fenerbahce’s encounter with Adana Demirspor, fans cheered on the Super Eagles star as he stepped onto the pitch.
While Osayi-Samuel received accolades from fans, he also faced disciplinary action in Turkey for his involvement in a post-match brawl with Trabzonspor fans. The Turkish Football Federation (TFF) announced on April 1st that Osayi-Samuel, along with two other Fenerbahce players, will stand trial before a panel.
Osayi-Samuel to undergo disciplinary hearing
The disciplinary action stems from a post-match brawl that erupted on March 17th after Fenerbahce secured a dramatic 3-2 victory against Trabzonspor in a heated Super Lig encounter. Following the final whistle, Trabzonspor fans stormed the pitch, targeting Fenerbahce players and staff for celebrating their win.
The TFF charged 26-year-old Bright Osayi-Samuel, along with Turkish goalkeeper İrfan Can Eğribayat and Fenerbahce defender Jayden Oosterwolde, for their involvement in the altercation described as ‘unsportsmanlike behavior’.
Turkish Football Federation to decide Super Eagles star’s fate
A disciplinary hearing will be convened by the TFF to determine the appropriate punishment for the players involved, as well as potential sanctions for Trabzonspor as a club. The outcome of the hearing will shed light on the consequences Osayi-Samuel and his teammates may face as a result of their actions.
Despite the impending trial, Osayi-Samuel's return to the Sukru Saracoglu Stadium was met with admiration and support from Fenerbahce fans, highlighting the bond between the player and the club's supporters.
