Victor Osimhen's sensational goal record means he will always be a part of Serie A history

Despite departing the Serie A in acrimonious circumstances, Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen has still left his mark on the Italian top flight, especially if he does not return to Napoli after his loan.

The Super Eagles star, who recently joined Galatasaray on loan from Napoli, has been nothing short of extraordinary during his four-year spell in Italy, leaving behind a special legacy in Serie A.

A remarkable Serie A career

Osimhen’s tenure at Napoli has seen the 25-year-old forward consistently find the back of the net, becoming one of the most feared strikers in Italy’s top flight.

According to data from statistics giants Opta, Osimhen scored a goal every 125 minutes during his time in Serie A, placing him third in the all-time list for minutes-per-goal ratio since the introduction of the three-points per win system in 1994.

This incredible ratio puts Osimhen in the company of two football giants, as only Portuguese GOAT Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored a goal every 104 minutes during his stint at Juventus, and the legendary Brazilian Ronaldo, with a goal every 117 minutes during his time at Inter and AC Milan, boast better minutes-per-goal ratio records.

Osimhen’s superb goalscoring record also helped Napoli claim their first Scudetto in 33 years as the all-time African top scorer in Serie A history scored 26 goals in 32 games, adding to his total of 64 goals in 8,136 minutes in Italy’s top flight.

Osimhen set for new chapter at Galatasaray

Despite his impressive statistics, Osimhen found himself out of Antonio Conte’s plans at Napoli, after failing to secure a transfer to Chelsea or Al Ahli this summer, leading to his temporary move to Galatasaray.

Napoli had already secured the services of Romelu Lukaku to fill the void left by Osimhen, a decision that saw the Nigerian star excluded from the club’s Serie A squad for the season.

Conte hailed Napoli’s handling of the transfer saga, and club director Giovanni Manna was full of praise for president Aurelio De Laurentiis for his role in stabilising the Partenopei, particularly in the wake of Osimhen’s collapsed moves to the Saudi Pro League and Chelsea.
