The Super Eagles star is determined not to let Napoli decide his future after sealing a move to Turkey
Victor Osimhen has opened up about his summer transfer saga, revealing that he was prepared to stay on Napoli’s bench for several months before making his preferred move.
The Nigerian striker, who eventually joined Galatasaray on loan, shared his thoughts on how he stayed patient and why a convincing call from Galatasaray’s coach changed his plans.
Osimhen refuse to let Napoli dictate his future
The Nigerian striker’s summer was filled with speculation as negotiations with Al-Ahli, Chelsea, and PSG all fell through.
Despite this, the striker was determined not to rush his next move, telling TRT Spor, “I had plans to stay there and wait for three or four months and leave in January, but I think for me it was fair also to stay there because I wouldn’t let anyone decide for me.
“It was important for me to stay there since I didn’t get the deserved move that I really preferred.”
With the right move failing to materialise over the summer, Osimhen did look like he was set for a spell on the sidelines after being removed from Napoli’s Serie A squad for the season, but Galatasaray came to his rescue at the last minute.
Galatasaray to the rescue
According to the Super Eagles star, his plans changed when Galatasaray’s coach reached out with a personal call that convinced him to join the Turkish club giants.
“When I received the call from the Galatasaray coach, it was really convincing. He said what he wanted to do this season and what he wanted to achieve,” Osimhen said.
“I could see what he had set for himself as a man, a coach, and a father. I think I fit in this plan and coming to a team with already a lot of quality players with great ambition, as a footballer it was easy to come,” Osimhen concluded.
After a rocky end to his Napoli spell, Osimhen's journey continues at Galatasaray, as he hopes to emulate his idol Didier Drogba, despite missing out on a move to Chelsea.
