The Super Eagles striker has been vocal about wanting a move, but his most recent contract terms stand in his way

Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen’s dream of playing in the Premier League with Chelsea or Arsenal is reportedly being hampered by his hefty €120 million release clause in his new Napoli contract.

Osimhen earmarked for summer transfer

Napoli’s Osimhen has been linked with a move away from Italy since his spectacular 2022/23 season when he helped the Partenopei to a first league title in 33 years with 26 goals in 32 matches.

The Nigerian striker has been rumoured as a target for Premier League sides Arsenal and Chelsea, as well as Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain, however, the Super Eagles star’s decision to sign a bumper new contract during the just concluded season could now be the biggest stumbling block for the Nigerian to get his big move.

Osimhen release clause hampers future move

In Osimhen’s most recent contract, Napoli inserted a safety clause that ensured they would get a fair transfer fee for their want-away striker with €120 million earmarked as the Nigerian’s release clause.

However, reports out of Italy suggest that Osimhen’s release clause could be the reason why the Super Eagles star does not secure a move out of Italy, with La Gazzetta dello Sport suggesting that his release clause is the reason why bids are yet to roll in for the 26-year-old.
