Winners emerge at HRA Youth Cup

The HRA Youth Cup Finals was held at the Femi Gbajabiamila Stadium in Abalti Barracks to complete seven weeks of intense competition among the youths in Lagos.

He acknowledged that, "Teams have started setting themselves up for rivalry after we had the successful screening. Competition have started from the venue of the draws. So drawing Ajibade FA, Ghetto Tigers together in group A of the U10 category will witness an Odi-olowo derby.

"The star packed girls category will see Ghetto Tigers going up against Heroes Queens, FC Phoenix Queens, and CATS Ladies. It's going to be a very competitive competition.

"Last season, we had very few teams. The turnup this year is massive and the first two minutes of opening the portal for registration, we already have 50 teams complete, so we couldn't extend because we have to play 120 matches in seven weeks and we wouldn't want to compromise our standard.

"It's going to be a very interesting competition and the kids are going to enjoy their holiday, Odi-olowo is going to be a Mecca for football and everybody is going to enjoy the football, youths will be engaged and the level of crime is going to be reduced."

Ajala Assures Participants Of Fair Treatment

Meanwhile, the Chairman of Odi-olowo Ojuwoye LCDA, Mr. Rasaq Ajala, has promised to ensure fair and equal treatment for all the clubs participating in the competition.

Ajala said that the OCC is dear to him because it has helped keep the youth busy and added glamour to the community.

The council head stated that top-notch referees would be used for the tournament and biased officiating would not be tolerated.

He outlined the impact of the competition on the youths and community as previous players have gone on to play professional football outside the shores of Nigeria.

"We won't use quack referees, we will use standard and qualified referees. We don't have interest in any of the team. We expect the officiating officials to be fair and just in their assessment of matches.

"The issue of referees having preferences for any team would not be welcomed.

"The competition is highly impactful. Which have attracted so many teams from different parts of Lagos.

"Most of the players that played at the previous edition have moved to Europe and that shows the impact the competition have on the youths and community at large."

Ajala revealed the plans of his administration to build two World class stadiums before the end of his tenure.

"By the grace of God, we are going to deliver two stadiums before the end of my tenure," he said.
