Australia emerge victorious in 11 goal thriller

Zambia and Australia locked horns at the Allianz Riviera in Nice, France for the second round of women's Olympic football of group B.

Zambia came into this match looking to claim a victory over The Matildas after suffering a 3-0 loss at the hands of USA in round 1.

On the other hand the Australians were coming from a loss of their own, courtesy of Germany. The game was a crucial one as both teams were hungry for points.

Zambia were off the mark early into the first half after breaking the deadlock after just 1 minute, but Australia responded immediately 6 minutes later through Alanna Kennedy.

The Africans scored twice through Kundananhi and Banda before Australia's Raso scored their second and Banda adding a third to complete her Hattrick.

In the second half, Kundananji was sharp and grabbed Zambia's fifth goal and it was here that The Matildas woke up from their slumber.

In less than 10 minutes they scored three times. Heyman scored the third before Foord fouled a Zambian player in the box to cause their second goal to be ruled out for foul play.

Shortly Australia got their fourth through Catley before she scored again from the penalty spot to take the score line to 5-5.

In the dying minutes, Australia broke Zambian hearts when Heyman was put through on goal before slotting smoothly past the goalkeeper.
