France's hopes of Euro 2024 glory have taken a huge hit with Lucas Hernandez ruled out of the summer tournament
Lucas Hernandez's ambitions of representing France at Euro 2024 have been dashed after suffering a serious injury during his club's Champions League match against Borussia Dortmund.
Injury blow for France and PSG as Lucas Hernandez ruptures ACL
Hernandez's Euro 2024 aspirations were dashed after he suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his left knee during PSG's first-leg semi-final against Borussia Dortmund. The horrific injury occurred in the 42nd minute of the game, causing Hernandez to be substituted.
Following the match, PSG issued a statement confirming the seriousness of Hernandez's injury, noting that an MRI scan validated the medical team's findings. The 28-year-old defender will soon undergo surgery to repair his torn ACL.
Hernandez's history with ACL injuries
Hernandez has previously suffered an ACL tear. He previously damaged his ACL at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, where France finished second. The recurrence of this injury adds to Hernandez's disappointment, as he has had a difficult comeback.
Hernandez remains determined to overcome the recent setback. In an Instagram statement, he emphasised his loyalty to PSG and promised to return stronger than before.
