In an unusual turn of events, Tottenham are set to miss out on Porro despite already agreeing a deal with Sporting Lisbon
After saying goodbye to fans and teammates after Sporting Lisbon’s most recent game against Porto, defender Pedro Porro must now make a walk of shame back into the Sporting fold after finding out that his £39 transfer to Tottenham has been called off.
Sporting call off deal after already agreeing to transfer
Porro was set to join the English club after a deal had been agreed to by Tottenham on both the club's and the player’s sides, but in the final moments, Sporting Lisbon reneged on the agreement with Spurs and cancelled the transfer.
This means that unless Tottenham and Sporting can come up with a new agreement before the end of Tuesday, Porro will be a Sporting player until at least July.
This is the most likely scenario since it took the clubs the entire January window to come to an agreement in the first place, despite the player already making his intentions to leave clear.
Porro will get his chance to leave Sporting
Porro has been at Sporting since 2020, first on a loan from Manchester City, before signing permanently this July.
He has been impressive for Sporting since he arrived at the club, and his performances have expectedly drawn interest from many top clubs, with Spurs the most eager to get a deal done this January.
He will be understandably disappointed at not being able to join Tottenham this window, but will no doubt get the chance to join them again in the summer.
