1.Poor form and results
City's recent form has been nothing short of catastrophic.
With only four points from their last eight matches in all competitions, Guardiola openly admitted the team’s performances have not been good enough.
“Nine losses in 12 games—it’s unacceptable,” he said in an interview with BBC.
“If we’re not winning, we don’t deserve to qualify. It’s that simple.”
This slump has left City languishing in seventh place in the Premier League, four points adrift of Nottingham Forest in fourth and even trailing Bournemouth and Aston Villa.
2.Stiff competition from unlikely rivals
The traditional “Big Six” dominance in the Premier League has been disrupted by a host of surprise contenders this season.

“There are a lot of contenders this year,” he said.
“It’s not just Liverpool, Arsenal, or United anymore."
These teams like Forest and Villa have been fantastic. We have to respect them because they are earning their places.”
3.Reliance on a weakened squad
City’s squad depth has been put to the test this season, and injuries to key players have exposed vulnerabilities.
Guardiola didn’t shy away from acknowledging the impact.
“We’ve had a lot of problems, and we didn’t solve them,” he said.
“Injuries, suspensions, and fatigue have taken a toll. Our key players haven’t been able to perform consistently, and it’s cost us.”

4. Failure to capitalize on favorable fixtures
Guardiola pointed to City’s upcoming matches against Everton, Leicester, and West Ham as a make-or-break moment in their season.
However, he also acknowledged that their inability to capitalize on winnable fixtures earlier in the campaign has left them in this precarious position.
“These are games we should win, no excuses,” he said.
“But we’ve already dropped points against teams we were expected to beat. We can’t let that happen again.”
5.Psychological and tactical issues
Finally, Guardiola pointed to mental and tactical challenges as underlying causes of City’s struggles.
He suggested that the pressure of their dominance in recent years may have caught up with the team.
“When I said qualifying for the Champions League is a success, people laughed,” he remarked.
“But look at United, Arsenal, Chelsea—they were dominant for years, and then they fell out. Now we are at risk. It’s psychological, tactical, and about hunger. We have to solve this.”
Guardiola’s candid remarks reflect a sobering reality for Manchester City fans.
