In his latest jibe to the Ugandan referees while in Rwanda, Koukouras warned the country not to follow in the footsteps of Uganda.

Despite leaving the Uganda Premier League about two seasons ago, former SC Villa head coach Petros Koukouras has called out the Ugandan match officials, terming them a 'corrupt' lot.

The Greek spent one season (2021/22) with the Uganda Premier League record holders, guiding them to a lowly 12th finish, two places above relegation as they collected just 33 points.

During his tenure in Uganda, Koukouras constantly clashed with referees on match days and openly criticized their officiating several times.

In his latest jibe to the Ugandan referees while in Rwanda, Koukouras warned the country not to follow in the footsteps of Uganda.

"I think you should do something and take the example of Uganda who, 20 years ago, they were playing in full stadiums," he told the Rwandan press.

"Now, you go to see (watch) a UPL match, and the stadium is empty; you go for a school tournament, and the stadium is full," he noted before adding:

"Because people were tired of the corruption and the incompetent referees," Koukouras added in an assessment of the Ugandan referees.

He further advised the Rwandans to jealously protect their decently packaged game that is buoyed by their "nice facilities."

Koukouras is currently the head coach at Rwandan outfit Kiyovu FC, and they now sit third in the Premier League with eight points in five matches.
