A section of suspected Express FC fans have brutally beaten assistant referee Fahad Sekayiba following their one-all stalemate with UPDF FC at Bombo Military Barracks on Friday.

In the StarTimes Uganda Premier League showdown, Express looked to get away with all three points after Emmanuel Wasswa's early goal, but the Army side levelled in the 80th minute through Bright Joseph Vuni.

The match official was left with severe head injuries and blood streaming from his nose, mouth, and ears.

Post-match, the fans went as far as damaging the vehicle used by the match officials and their assessor.

These acts of hooliganism have long been condemned as they not only deter other fans from attending games but are life-threatening as well.

Meanwhile, Express could be in hot soup as recent history has had teams lose points to fans' hooliganism.

Last season, both SC Villa and Busoga United were docked points after a section of their fans got involved in violent hooliganistic acts.

West Nile side, Onduparaka FC, has also in the past been dealt the unforgiving FUFA disciplinary hand over hooliganism.
