The Law Enforcers dominated Sofapaka throughout the match and capped off their display with a 3-0 win.
Kenya Police FC extended their unbeaten run to four games following a 3-0 thumping of Sofapaka to pip KCB into fourth place in a league match staged at the Police Sacco Stadium on Wednesday.
Police had to withstand an early scare when Sofapaka's Ben Stanley Omondi hit a shot inside the box that gave Police shot-stopper Job Ochieng some work to do.
The blip would soon be forgotten though, as Police would go one up in the eighth minute through former AFC Leopards' midfielder Marvin Nabwire.
Police were suddenly on a run, and in the 17th minute, would add a second through Francis Kahata with the former Simba midfielder netting his second of the season.
The Law Enforcers continued to find their groove and could easily have had a third goal on the counterattack in the 28th minute, rallied by a combination move executed between Clifton Miheso and Elvis Rupia down the right-hand side.
This prompted Sofapaka coach, David Ouma into making changes, and off came Felix Malyungi for Tyson Omondi in efforts to reduce the deficit.
The change still could not stop the waves of attack Police were creating down that flank, and in the 37th minute, another cross by Miheso caused some more confusion in the Sofapaka box yet again after some nice interchanges between the winger and David 'Messi' Owino.
Sofapaka had the rare opportunity to get back into the game when Sofapaka winger Simon Abuko ran at pace past Messi, but upon picking out Roddy Manga in the box, his pass was overhit, hence wasting the opportunity.
Batoto ba Mungu could not find a way to contain the Police attack, and winger Alvin Mang'eni had the chance to make it three having dribbled past David Nshirimimana but hit the ball over the bar.
The second attempt came just 30 seconds later as Golden Boot chaser Elvis Rupia hit the ball straight onto the palms of Sofapaka keeper Kevin Omondi.
Police continued where they picked off right after the break and could have made it three through Rupia yet again when right back Baraka Badi overlapped Alvin Mang’eni and hit a cross to the former AFC Leopards striker, but his shot was wayward.
The Law Enforcers were starting to enjoy themselves so much so that their freedom was epitomized in the 55th minute.
Center back David “Cheche” Ochieng’ joined the attack and ran down the right flank and cut inside, then created a good one-two situation with Rupia in the Sofapaka box, before he met the return pass and found Miheso on the edge of the box down the other flank, but his shot could not find the target.
It just never looked like Rupia’s day, and he could have had a hat-trick in the 65th minute when he got on the end of a Nabwire pass but hit it straight onto Omondi’s hands, but he parried it onto Miheso’s path who hit it over the bar.
Police boss Francis Baraza decided to make changes in the 72nd minute, as he subbed on Reagan Otieno and Kevin Mwaura for Miheso and Kahata.
Mwaura was making his first appearance for 18 months after a long knee injury lay off. He also subbed on Leslie Otieno and Clinton Kinang’a five minutes later, and three of the four substitutes would be the cream of the crop for Police.
Mwaura found Otieno, who passed the ball to Kinang’a who then drilled a low shot past a helpless Omondi to make the hosts three-to-the-good.
The only negative for Police was an injury to midfielder Charles “Oush” Ouma in the 87th minute. The victory for Police now means that they are fourth on 53 points ahead of KCB on goal difference.
