Rangers and Homeboyz battled intensely, with both teams creating opportunities, but failing to clinch the win in a tightly contested match.

Posts Rangers are one point clear at the top of the Football Kenya Federation Premier League table after a 1-1 draw against Kakamega Homeboyz at the Bukhungu Stadium in Kakamega.

Rangers have 20 points, just ahead of Gor Mahia, who are on 19 points after winning their latest league match 1-0 against Shabana FC on Wednesday.

The first chance of the match went the way of Rangers , with Brian Otieno sending a free kick just off target inside the opening three minutes.

However two minutes later at the other end of the field, Homeboyz's Moses Shummah broke the deadlock when he chipped the ball past Kelvin Opiyo for the opener.

On 12 minutes Rangers threatened again, with Brian Marita teeing up Jackson Macharia to shoot from just inside the penalty, but the attacker pulled his effort narrowly wide of Farouk Shikhalo's right-hand post.

Posta Rangers found the equalizer in the half-an-hour mark as a Brian Otieno corner kick delivery found Ondiek Bernard who headed it home to make it 1-1.

The score remained tied up to the halftime interval, with the teams closing up in defense for the final minutes of the first stanza.

Homeboyz looked to shuffle their pack 10 minutes after the restart with the introduction of Felicien Okanda and Francis Omondi who replaced Ambrose Sifuna and Chris Masinza.

Midway through the second half Okanda went on an extraordinary solo run which started inside his own half and ended with him cutting onto his left foot inside the penalty area, but his shot was way high and wide.

Rangers then enjoyed a spell of pressure at the other end, though they lacked the necessary precision in attack to truly cut open Homeboyz's defense, with Shikhalo not called into action nearly as much as in the opening quarter of the game.

The teams traded half-chances in the dying stages, but neither had the confidence and composure to fully capitalize and earn themselves all three points on offer.

How they lined up:

Kakamega Homeboyz:  Farouk Shikhalo, Brian Wekesa, Eric Ambunya,Potipher Odhiambo, Brian Chala, Estone  Esiye, Felicien Okanda, Gospel Otieno, Moses Shumah, Hilary Otieno, Amrose Sifuna
