The ex-players completed the month-long CAF C courses organised by Football Kenya Federation
Former Kenyan Premier League players are among 30 new coaches who completed a month-long CAF C License coaching courses on Tuesday.
Ronald Okoth, former Gor Mahia, Sofapaka and Wester Stima forward, as well as ex-Tusker FC and Mathare United star Kenneth Wendo, are among the tacticians from Kenyan clubs and academies who completed the training in Nairobi’s Buruburu.
“CAF C is a professional course. Each one of you here represents an organisation, some of you are head coaches,” said FKF CEO Barry Otieno. “When you back to your clubs, make a positive impact, lift those clubs, and build those players. If you do that, we will see a change in our game.”
Okoth, the brains behind RO Sports Academy, was delighted to have elevated his footballing knowledge.
“The one month has been a valuable experience. The knowledge I have gained has boosted my confidence as a coach,” said Okoth.
“We have learned how to train a team properly, match analysis, and a lot of the science behind football. I am looking forward to implementing what I have learned and the improved performance that will follow.”
Former AFC Leopards player Ray Omondi, who coaches FKF Division One side Kibra Soccer, was also among the graduands and lauded the course as an eye-opener. “I am going back a better coach, a better planner, and with a better understanding of the science behind football,” said Omondi.
Express Academy coach Maureen Juma, said: “I have learned what to do and when to do it; when to run conditioning, when to do functional training, and how intensively. As someone who works with young children under 10, I have learned how to handle that particular age group.”
Other notable names who completed the course are Josephat Ngubi, Collins Ochieng and John Makheti.
