Sheffield United boss Paul Heckingbottom is set to become the first managerial casualty of the 2023/24 Premier League season.
Sheffield United are reportedly set to sack managee Paul Heckingbottom today following the embarrassing 5-0 thrashing away at Burnley.
The Blades dropped to the bottom of the table after losing the relegation six-pointer to swap places with Burnley who were previously at the foot of the table.
Nothing is confirmed officially yet but the Athletic reports that Sheffield United will announce the news in due course to finalise their break up with Heckingbottom.
Paul Heckingbottom wins the 2023/24 sack race
Heckingbottom will be the first Premier League manager to get fired this season, winning the dreaded sack race as a result.
The Premier League sack race for this season has gone on longer than usual with the first managerial casualty only just happening in December, almost halfway through the season.
Last season Bournemouth parted ways with Scott Parker in August, just four games into the season, Heckingbottom has lasted 10 games and four months later.
Heckingbottom was appointed by Sheffield United in November 2021, signing a four-and-a-half-year deal and earned the team promotion back to the Premier League.
But the return to the top flight has not gone as well as he would have hoped with just five points from 14 games so far and suffering some big losses including 8-0 against Newcastle, 5-0 against Arsenal and Burnley.
