What he said
Speaking on the Rest is Football podcast, which he co-hosts with Gary Lineker and Micah Richards, Shearer commented on Liverpool's transfer dealings for next summer.
He expects Liverpool to sign a centre-forward for next season, as there are reports that they planned on cutting their losses with Darwin Nunez. He named the former Manchester City youngster Liam Delap as a possible option.
“Liverpool are going to need a centre-forward,” Shearer said, per Anfield Index.

“They might try and move Nunez on and bring someone else into that position. There will be big football clubs after Delap, I’m sure of that.”

Liverpool's striker search
The Reds invested €85 million in signing Nunez from Benfica in the summer of 2022 and thought they had the striker position covered for many seasons. However, the Uruguayan has only shone in bits for the Reds, managing only 40 goals in 136 games for Liverpool.
According to reports, Liverpool are set to sell him in the summer, which would mean they have to bring in a replacement. They have been linked with the likes of Alexander Isak, who is expected to cost north of €100m. Delap, a huge prospect, could prove a cheaper option for the present and future.
