The Confederation of African Football (CAF) is set to honor Rwanda's President Paul Kagame and Morocco's King Mohammed VI with the CAF President's Outstanding Achievement Award 2022.
The award will be awarded by CAF President Patrice Motsepe with the ceremony to take place in Kigali, Rwanda, on March 14, before the FIFA Congress.
The award recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to the development of sports in Africa.
Both President Kagame and King Mohammed VI have shown remarkable support and commitment to the growth of African sports, particularly football.
“The CAF President Dr Patrice Motsepe will be conferring the CAF President’s Outstanding Achievement Award 2022 to President Paul Kagame of Rwanda and King Mohammed VI of Morocco in Kigali, Rwanda,” CAF said in a statement.
In addition to the awards, CAF is also expected to announce the host country for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) during the ceremony.
Morocco is among the African nations that submitted their bid to host the continental tournament.
King Mohammed VI of Morocco is a well-known supporter of African and Moroccan sports, particularly football.
The king has launched several initiatives to develop Moroccan sports, including the Mohammed VI Football Academy in Sale, which he inaugurated in 2009.
The king has also been a fierce supporter of the Moroccan national football team, notably during their journey at the 2022 World Cup, where they made a fairytale run to the semi-finals.
President Kagame has been a champion for sports development in Rwanda, leading efforts to build world-class sports infrastructure and promote sports excellence in the country.
He has also been a strong advocate for the development of sports across the African continent.
The ceremony promises to be a night of glitz and glamour, with football legends and top officials from across the continent in attendance.
The ceremony will be attended by top officials from CAF, including President Patrice Motsepe, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, and other guests.
It is expected to be a celebration of African sports and an opportunity to recognize those who have made significant contributions to its development.
