PSG will host Newcastle on Match Day 5 in the UEFA Champions League, with both teams needing a win to bolster their chances of making it to the knockout stages.

PSG are second in Group F with 6 points (2W, 0D, 2L) after a 2-1 loss to AC Milan on match day 4, while Newcastle are bottom of the group with 4 points (1W, 1D, 2L) after losing 2-0 away at Borussia Dortmund the last time out.

PSG vs. Newcastle match preview

PSG head into this game on the back of consecutive league victories, with their loss to Milan being their only blemish in their last eight games across all competitions (7W, 0D, 1L).

However, the French side have lost two of their last three UCL games, and a defeat against Newcastle will see them lose two UCL games in a row for the first time since 2004–05.

The reverse fixture ended 4-1 in favour of the Magpies in what was their first-ever meeting in the competition and PSG’s heaviest defeat in their first game against an opponent in the UCL.

Newcastle are coming into this game filled with confidence after thrashing Chelsea 4-1 in the Premier League over the weekend.

Eddie Howe’s side could become the first to defeat PSG home and away in the UCL group stage since CSKA Moscow did in 2004–05.

PSG vs. Newcastle prediction

PSG have lost six of their last eight matches against English sides (2W, 0D, 6L), including the last two. However, the reigning Ligue 1 champions have never lost three games in a row to Premier League teams.

As for Newcastle, they have won just one of their seven away games in France (1W, 2D, 4L), which was as far back as November 2004 against Sochaux.
