The transfer is worth $150,000, making it the biggest transfer between the Mexican MX Women's league and the US Championship.
Racing Louisville has completed and announced the signing of Super Falcons forward Uchenna Kanu from Mexico's Tigres Femenil in a deal, considered a record-breaking transfer.
Kanu had only joined Tigres from Swedish powerhouse Linköpings FC in January 2022.
However, the 25-year-old striker became a huge hit in Mexico, scoring 23 goals in 39 matches and helping the Amazons win the Apertura 2022 and the Copa Amazonas.
The successful season now sees her leave the Mexican Tigres UANL after just a year, for the United States National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) on a two-year contract with an option for the 2025 season.

Having been impressed by Kanu’s exploits at the Sultana del Norte, Racing Louisville moved swiftly to bring the Nigerian striker to the Lynn Family Stadium, for $150,000, with an additional $30,000 to be paid to the five-time Liga MX champions should Kanu scores 12+ goals this season.
The deal now stands as a record transfer between a National Women’s Soccer League club and a Liga MX club.
The player-plus-cash deal also sees Racing Louisville's rookie forward Riley Parker head in the opposite direction to Tigres, where she will play on loan through June 2023.
Uchenna Kanu stats
A stellar year at Tigres, saw the 25-year-old score 23 goals in 38 appearances, helping her team claim Liga MX Femenil’s Torneo Apertura trophy in November.
Before her time in Mexico, Kanu impressed in Sweden’s Damallsvenskan, notching up 22 goals in 42 matches over two years with Linköpings FC. Kanu’s 17 goals scored in the 2021 season ranked the second-best in the league.
Kanu boasts of 10 goals in 12 appearances for Nigeria's Super Falcons, including a sensational goal against the U.S. Women’s National Team in a friendly last September and two more at the 2022 Women's Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
