Rafael Leao makes decisive statement on his future following Milan's Champions League triumph over Napoli.

AC Milan striker Rafael Leao has effectively ended transfer speculations and links away from the Rossoneri. He confirmed his desire to stay in Milan and is in talks with the club to further intertwine their future with his.

The 23-year-old joined the seven-time Champions League winners in the summer of 2019 from Lille and has increased in prominence, thereby eliciting interest from top European clubs. However, the winger has expressed his desire to stay put.

What Leao said

The Portuguese winger was speaking after Milan's triumph in the Champions League as they knocked out Napoli to advance to the semi-final of the competition for the first time since 2007 when he confirmed his desire to remain at the club.

The former Sporting Lisbon player said he wants to stay at Milan, and suggested he will honour the last year of his contract before confirming current negotiations with the club for an extension.

The winger has scored 38 goals and provided 33 assists since signing for the Rossoneri, and he says he is happy at the club as it feels like home.

“I want to stay here at Milan, yes, but there are some things to resolve. I’m still under contract for one more year, we’re in talks,” he told Sky Sports, per Fabrizio Romano.

“I feel at home at AC Milan. I’m so, so happy to be here."

Meanwhile, Serie A side AC Milan have equalled a UEFA Champions League record after their aggregate victory over Napoli in the 2022/23 quarterfinals.

The Rossoneri survived a late scare and a penalty miss against Napoli in the only same-country tie of this year’s quarterfinal to reach a first UEFA Champions League semifinal since the 2006/07 season when they were crowned champions.

After seeing off Napoli, AC Milan were able to celebrate the first UEFA Champions League semifinal in 16 years, and the seventh one in the club’s history.

Reaching the magic number seven for semifinals in the UCL meant that Milan joined rivals Juventus to become the Italian side with the joint-most semifinal appearances in the UEFA Champions League.
