Goals from Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz helped Real Madrid beat Chelsea.

Real Madrid picked up their first win in preseason, beating Enzo Maresca's side 2-1 at the Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.

Los Blancos were coming off back-to-back losses to AC Milan and eternal rivals Barcelona, while Chelsea were recently trounced by Manchester City.

Carlo Ancelotti’s side led 2-0 thanks to goals from Lucas Vazquez and Brahim Diaz, while Noni Madueke pulled one back for Chelsea.

Key match actions

Chelsea were the better side in the opening exchanges, but Real Madrid scored the opener. The Blues’ defence was in sixes and sevens and Lucas Vazquez capitalised, finishing into a vacated goal.

Brahim Diaz made it two in the 27th minute, and a sumptuous Vinicius delivery released him behind the Chelsea backline. He rounded Filip Jorgensen and finished with aplomb.

Chelsea were much improved in the second half and got themselves back into the game thanks to a Noni Madueke strike. The former PSV winger rose highest at the back post, heading Enzo Fernandez’s delivery past Andriy Lunin.

Inter is next on the docket for Chelsea in their pre-season friendly roster, while Real Madrid have the UEFA Super Cup against Atalanta next.
