The Bayer Leverkusen star has been on Real Madrid's radar, but Los Blancos are unlikely to make a move

Real Madrid’s search for a new right-back is in full swing, with Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold their primary target.

The Spanish giants have drawn up a shortlist of alternatives just in case they fail to land the Reds’ captain, but Bayer Leverkusen’s Jeremie Frimpong is unlikely to become a serious option, at least for now.

Frimpong not a serious option for Real Madrid

While Frimpong’s €40 million release clause is affordable for a club of Madrid’s stature, the focus is still squarely on Alexander-Arnold.

Jeremie Frimpong was the hero for Leverkusen as his goal cancelled out Antonio's opener for West Ham.

Despite being on Real Madrid’s shortlist, the Bayer Leverkusen star has not yet become a concrete target for the La Liga heavyweights.

Speaking to The Daily Briefing, journalist Christian Falk revealed that Frimpong is open to a move, but Real Madrid are far from making any serious advances.

For now, Madrid seem to be biding their time, waiting to see how things progress with their top target, Alexander-Arnold, before they consider stepping up their interest in Frimpong.

Frimpong, meanwhile, remains open to the possibility of a transfer, and other clubs, including Manchester United and Liverpool, have also shown interest.

Liverpool and others Keeping Tabs on Frimpong

While Real Madrid have not fully committed to pursuing Frimpong, Liverpool have also been linked to the talented Dutchman as a possible replacement for Los Blancos’ number one target, Alexander Arnold.

Should they lose Alexander-Arnold to Madrid, Liverpool will likely swoop for Frimpong as a direct replacement for the England international.

Despite the interest, Frimpong’s future is still wide open, with several big clubs eyeing the Leverkusen star. However, for now, Real Madrid remain focused on securing Trent Alexander-Arnold, with Frimpong likely only becoming a priority if their top choice falls through.
