Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to make a move to land one of Spain's stars.
Real Madrid are reportedly preparing to move for former Manchester City defender Aymeric Laporte in the next summer transfer window.
The 30-year-old left European football for the Saudi Pro League last summer to join Cristiano Ronaldo at Al Nassr. However, after a successful summer in which he was integral to Spain winning the European Championships, he reminded top teams in the continent of his qualities.
Real Madrid in for Laporte
After losing Nacho at the end of the previous campaign, Los Blancos were expected to enter the market for a defender, with Antoine Rudiger, David Alaba, and Eder Militao their only top-level options at the back; however, they left their gunpowder wet.
While Real Madrid did not actively chase any players, they kept tabs on Aymeric Laporte. According to Dario AS, Al Nassr were not willing to release him without a transfer fee; hence, suitors like Real Madrid were discouraged last summer.
The former Manchester City star has a contract with the Faris Najd until the summer of 2026, and Real Madrid will be prepared to go for him next summer, when the financial requirements to land him would have eased, given the year left on his contract.
Meanwhile, Real Madrid have had to rely solely on Militao and Rudiger in the centre-back position this season, as Alaba injured his cruciate ligament with a return date set for January 2025.
