Los Blancos return to eight points above Barcelona with their drubbing of Celta Vigo at the new Santiago Bernabeu.
Real Madrid ran riot against Celta Vigo, putting four past the Galician side to keep their seven-point lead at the top of LALIGA.
Following the wins for the two Catalan sides hot on Los Blancos's tail Barcelona and Girona, Carlo Ancelotti's men needed to match the result when they hosted Celta at Santiago Bernabeu, to keep their advantage.
The hosts put up a vintage performance, unrelenting from kick off, scoring four goals against their visitors. Vinicius opened the scoring, Arda Guler closed it, with two own goals from Vicente Guaita and Carlos Dominguez sandwiched between them.
How it happened
Real Madrid started with a spring in their step, and after several close calls, they finally breached the Celta goal when Vinicius Jr rebounded his own shot after Guaita’s save deflected it towards his path.
The visitors held their own following the opener. They kept the scoreline a lone-goal affair until the 79th minute when Antonio Rudiger’s bullet header from a corner ricocheted against the upright and then Guaita’s back before nesting at the back of the net.
It became three in the 87th minute through another own-goal, as Dominguez turned the ball into his own net in an attempt to prevent Vinicius’s cross from reaching its intended target at the far post.
Young Arda Guler, who has been frustrated by limited game time since returning from injury, was given a chance to get minutes under his belt with the game all but won. He replaced Vinicius in the 89th minute, and five minutes later, he received an eye if the needle pass from Lucas Vazquez, rounded Guaita, before firing home with his right foot.
