The Real Madrid and Germany legend, who bid farewell to professional football following Germany’s Euro 2024 campaign, has announced his return to the world of football.

Kroos makes surprise comeback

After calling time on a glittering career that included five Champions League titles and a World Cup triumph, many assumed Kroos had played his last competitive match.

However, the midfield maestro is set to lace up his boots once again for the Icon League, a unique five-a-side competition featuring some of football’s biggest legends, current professionals, and even stars from other sports.

The tournament, which kicks off on March 10 in Düsseldorf’s Castello arena, consists of seven teams battling it out across 13 matchdays.

Kroos' involvement was confirmed in a social media post from the league, featuring him gazing at his trademark Adidas boots with the caption "One more dance.”

This will not be Kroos’ first outing in the Icon League. The 35-year-old previously played for B2B United in the competition’s debut season, although it remains to be seen which team he will represent this time.

Kroos won’t be the only familiar face in the tournament, which has already gained traction for the number of stars that have graced the competition.

The Icon League boasts an impressive roster of participants, including current German internationals like Robert Andrich and Antonio Rüdiger, former Bayern Munich icons Franck Ribéry and David Alaba, ice hockey star Leon Draisaitl, and even famous commentator Wolff Fuss.

While this return isn’t a comeback to top-level football, it marks an exciting moment for fans who were not quite ready to say goodbye to Kroos’ elegance on the ball.

Toni Kroos proved decisive for the last time as he bows out in style.

Whether this is just a nostalgic cameo or a sign that Kroos still has unfinished business on the pitch remains to be seen, but for now, football fans can relish the chance to watch one of the game’s greatest midfielders take to the field once again.
